Local Technology Company Focuses on Enhancing Employee Skills – Greater Louisville Inc.

Kathy Mills, President and CEO of Strategic Communications, has made it a priority to invest in the development of her company’s team.

Strategic Communications is a technology company based in Louisville. Founded in 1994, Strategic has provided an array of IT solutions for hundreds of federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as corporate businesses.  Strategic has won a number of awards and has been recognized regularly for its rapid growth.  The company has qualified for the Inc. 500/5000 list for four consecutive years including being listed #41 overall in the Inc. 500 in 2012.  It has been listed as the #1 fastest growing IT company in the state of Kentucky in 2012 and 2013.  Strategic also has been ranked as #10 on the Best Places to Work Kentucky list for 2014.

Perhaps the single most exciting recent recognition for Mills is the receipt of a $25,000 grant from Bluegrass State Skills Corporation (BSSC), which Strategic will use for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training for their sales and engineering staff along with professional development and job-based skills training programs for other departments including Accounting/Finance, Human Resources, and Operations.

“We are thrilled to have received this grant for the 2014-2015 year”, said Mills. “We are thankful to the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development and the BSSC as we are always looking to recruit home-grown talent and build the skills of our existing employees.  This grant gives us an opportunity to further invest in professional development/training and, in turn, will aid in the continued growth of our business.”

Strategic CommunicationsMills credits her staff with much of her company’s success. “There are several things that make Strategic Communications stand out from our competition,” she says.  “One of those things is the dedication and commitment of our staff to the customer.  We have a philosophy of going the extra mile for our clients and they remember that.  Our staff is also extremely dedicated to the company.  We have several employees who have been here in one role or another for 10 or more years.  Their loyalty is evidenced in their daily contributions and we would not be as successful as we are without them.”

Mills also adds the company’s GLI membership to the mix of what makes her company sizzle. “GLI is one of the most prominent business leadership organizations in our region,” she said, “and a lot of the companies we would like to establish closer business relationships with are a part of it.  GLI is a great catalyst for economic development for the Greater Louisville area and we support that 100%.  It’s not only good for our ever growing commercial business, but for the entire region.”
